Wizard-themed bedchamber with wood floors shortlisted for award

A wizard-themed bedchamber in York has been shortlisted for a national independent accommodation award.

The Enchantment Chamber is for fans of Harry Potter and anyone who wants a wizard-inspired room to sleep in. The chamber is in an old mill in the centre of York, whose Shambles area is said to have been the inspiration behind Diagon Alley that features in the Harry Potter books.

The chamber has a wooden four-poster bed, an open fire, a solid wood floor and wizard artefacts. It is a contender for the ‘Quirkiest Place to Stay’ category in the Eviivo awards. Zoë Dawes, one of the award judges said:

“Running a quirky and characterful B&B, or a collection of modern city centre apartments is demanding and requires multiple skills, hard work and dedication. These awards help to shine a light on and identify the finest businesses within the UK’s hospitality sector.”

The style of the Enchanted Chamber also appeals to people who are not into wizards. Minus the wizard artefacts, a bedroom that features wood is an attractive style for people who like a traditional luxury look to a room.

To achieve this look in your home, start with wood flooring in your Cheshire bedroom and match it with a solid wood bed and wooden furniture. A solid fuel stove or fireplace provides a traditional cosy and comforting form of heating. Once the solid wood flooring has been installed and the necessary furniture moved in, the room can then be decorated to a personal taste.
