Solid wood floors feature in the “Best Building in Scotland”

The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) has given the Best Building in Scotland Award to a project by property developer Eastacre in West Burn Lane, St. Andrews. This is a development of 14 houses and apartments that feature solid wood flooring supplied by Kährs.

Kährs is a Swedish firm that has been manufacturing wooden products since 1857. Like many flooring companies, the firm is committed to ecological issues, with the aim of creating wooden flooring products that are good for people and the environment.

The West Burn lane development was given the award for innovation and design excellence. The judges of the award were also looking for environmentally responsible projects.

The development is within the historic Old Town conservation area of St Andrews, and the West Burns project has been designed to complement the surrounding area.

Eastacre only use high quality materials that are made to last. To fulfil this criterion, the wooden floors needed to be high quality and durable. The floors were made in Sweden using sustainable European Oak, which features a lively grain. To add durability the wood was treated with a matt lacquer.

The Kährs Oak Brighton flooring used creates a rustic design look across a number of different floor areas, including living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms and hallways.
As the winner of such an award, the project will no doubt inspire homeowners planning on installing hardwood flooring in Liverpool, North Wales and elsewhere across the UK.
