Solid wood flooring – the right choice for your Liverpool home?

Mulling over solid wood flooring? Here are some solid facts to help you decide:

Solid wood floors are an investment

It’s tempting to compare solid wood floor against cheaper options like laminate and vinyl, but solid wood flooring should be regarded as a long-term investment. You probably wouldn’t think twice about spending thousands on a new fitted kitchen, so why should a floor be any different? You can find solid wood floors in some of Liverpool’s historic buildings that were laid over 100 years ago and still look the part.

Wood floors can be sanded and refinished multiple times

One of the biggest advantages of solid wood is how it can be periodically sanded and refinished. It’s not something you’ll want to do too often, but it can really bring a battered floor back to life. Solid wood has a much thicker wear layer than engineered wood, giving the opportunity to sand it several times over its long life.

Solid wood floors are not for cellars

Many of the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian terraced houses in Liverpool were built with cellars, and you may be tempted to convert this into extra living space. A solid wood floor is probably out of the question, though, because the higher concentration of moisture doesn’t mix well with solid wood. If you really want a wooden floor, the extra stability of engineered wood flooring makes it more suitable.

Solid wood doesn’t have to be boring

Many people think of the traditional oak floor, but hundreds of different styles are possible by varying wood species and plank sizes.
