Repairing scratches to laminate flooring

It is hardly surprising that laminate flooring in Liverpool is extraordinarily popular across the board. It is a particularly good choice for bathrooms, kitchens and areas that see a large footfall because it is both affordable and fairly easy to clean.

Although laminate flooring is extremely hardy, when you have had it installed for a prolonged period of time it will start to show signs of wear and tear, just like any other kind of flooring. One of the great things about laminate flooring is that when wear begins to become visible, it is fairly easy to repair.

There are many ways in which you can repair problems with your laminate flooring:

Removing minor scratches

Light scratches are common to many flooring types. They can be caused by dragging furniture, high heels and general wear and tear. Luckily, they are very easy to disguise on laminate flooring. All you need to do is purchase a wax crayon that is as similar as possible to the colour of your flooring, and use it to colour in the scratch.

Once the scratch is sufficiently filled with the coloured wax, you will need to buff the area with a microfiber cloth to smooth it out. Once you’re finished, no one will ever know there was a scratch there.

Fixing deep scratches

If you are unlucky enough to get a deep scratch on your laminate flooring, do not despair. It is possible to repair even the worst of scratches.

For this repair you will need to purchase some floor repair putty. Place the putty onto a knife, hold the knife at a 45-degree angle in relation to the floor and spread it across the scratched area. Repeat this process holding the knife at various different angles until the scratch is fully filled.

Next, you will need to clean the knife before dragging its straight edge across the putty to ensure the finish is smooth and even.

Then, use some fine sandpaper to smooth over the area until signs of the scratch are no longer visible.

Of course, if you aren’t exactly a dab hand when it comes to DIY, you can call on the services of flooring professionals who specialise in laminate flooring in Liverpool, and they will be able to assist you in getting rid of any scratches and scrapes your floor may have, and you won’t have to lift a finger.
