Popularity of large floor tiles on the up

Due to advances in technology, floor tiles are becoming larger. According to the website FloorTrendsMag.com, manufacturers, floor installers, and retailers are embracing large floor tiles as their popularity grows.

Anne Rue designs hotel makeovers for the show Hotel Impossible on the Travel Channel. Each hotel makeover is completed on a tight schedule of just three and a half days, which does not give enough time to rip up existing floor covering and replace them. Instead, she uses large tiles manufactured by the United States company Laminan. These are thin, but durable and can quickly be laid over an existing floor surface.

Some designers are using large format porcelain tiles that can be laid inside or outside property. These come in sizes 18” x 36” and 24” x 24”, and one of the most popular looks is limestone. Porcelain tiles are especially useful in wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms. Porcelain floor tiles can be made in various thicknesses depending on the load capacity of the floor. They can be as thin as 5.6 millimetres.

The largest panels available are around 10.5 foot by 3.5 foot and come in various polished and honed finishes. Kim Albrecht of Daltile who manufacture them said:

“These slabs are ideal for floors, walls and countertops and are durable and low-maintenance.”

People wanting to install solid flooring in their homes of business premises should consider large format tiles. They are quick to install, look good, last a long time and are easy to clean.
