Las Vegas show reveals new sustainable flooring trends

The recent Surface Event in Las Vegas showcased the latest flooring trends and one major trend is installing flooring that is not harmful to the environment.

Laura Greenwood of the UK agency Scarlet Opus attended the show and said:

“The most important consumer trend is undoubtedly based around the subject of sustainability.”

Consumers are demanding more Earth-friendly products. An example of how the flooring industry is responding to this demand is Organoid Decorative Coatings from Germany, which showcased flooring at the event that is made from renewable sources such as grass and flowers. Any chemicals that they use in manufacturing floor coverings have been tested to make sure that they are safe for the environment. The company also uses 100% green electricity in its factory from renewable sources.

A number of products shown at the Surface Event are made from reclaimed wood, which has an aged look and natural grain patterns with knots and cracks. People like a floor with an aged look, even when installing a new floor. Some manufacturers add colour dyes to natural wood grains to add vibrancy.

Consumers want flooring that connects them to nature which is why wood, bamboo and cork are popular floor coverings. This trend has been referred to as “biophilic design”.

If you are choosing floor coverings, consider using natural materials from sustainable sources. Solid wood flooring in your Cheshire home or office not only looks good, but it can be good for the environment.
