International Surfaces Event shows what’s new in flooring

The International Surfaces Event, held in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 17 to 20, showed all the new developments in flooring. Among the main highlights were:

• Luxury vinyl tile and high definition printing have combined to create bold embossed patterns. These tiles are easy to install and do not require sealants.

• WPC tiles have similar properties to luxury vinyl tiles, but with the added advantage of superior moisture resistant properties. These make them ideal for wet areas like bathrooms or kitchens. They can be made to resemble a number of popular floor covering materials, including ceramic, wood and stone.

• Ceramic tiles can now be made in five-foot sizes. Though mainly used as floor covering, they are also being fixed to walls to provide backsplashes and fireplace surround. Ceramic tiles are also ideal for outdoor use.

• New developments in carpet technology include treatments to eliminate odours and resist moisture. These are ideal for pet owners. If a pet has an accident on these carpets, the moisture will not penetrate the carpet fibres and the smell will be masked.

• Solid wood floors are still popular, but the trend is for lighter more natural colours that allow the wood grain and knots to feature prominently. Thanks to advances in technology, wooden floor planks can now be made wider and longer than standard floor panels.

The International Surface Event showed the latest flooring developments that will no doubt soon be available for installing on solid floors in Cheshire homes and businesses.
