Insert a piece of Liverpool history into your floor

The carpet at John Lennon Airport in Liverpool with the Capital of Culture 08 logo, is being replaced and the airport is thinking of raffling or auctioning off some pieces for charity.

If you are

having new contract flooring in your Liverpool business or premises, you may soon be able to include a piece of one of Liverpool’s most famous carpets.

In 2008 Liverpool became the British Capital of Culture, and to celebrate, Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport installed a large carpet featuring a Capital of Culture 08 logo to welcome visitors to the city.

The carpet has become worn with the 08 logo highlighting the carpet’s age. The airport has started replacing the carpet with new rubber tiles.

An estimated forty million passengers have walked on the carpet as they passed through the airport. These include Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono, Prince Harry, and the footballs teams of Liverpool FC and Everton FC.

The airport is considering auctioning pieces of the carpet that contain the logo in aid of local charities, though they have not confirmed when and where the sale will take place. If you fancy buying a piece of carpet that has been trodden on by so many famous people, then an announcement could be made soon.

The logo carpet pieces can be framed and displayed on the wall, or could form part of a new Liverpool floor. Of course, the carpet pieces may need a good clean before displaying.
