Designers predict flooring trends for 2016

As 2015 nears an end, experts in the flooring trade have predicted flooring trends for 2016. From wood flooring in Cheshire , to laminate flooring in North Wales, there are plenty of popular flooring options that will be available in your area next year.

Laura Bleecker, interior designer, has highlighted two trends that will be further developed over the coming months. Abstract patterns are being featured on luxury vinyl tiles, which are inspired by nature and mimic natural materials such as marble, granite, wood and metal.

The second trend that Laura thinks will be popular is paler and more neutral colours such as grey, which is the ideal colour to put near bolder more colourful shades. Floors with contrasting grey and white areas may emerge as a favourite look for 2016.

In the USA, the home television channel HGTV features reclaimed wood as a design trend. With consumers focussing on environmental issues, recycled wood that reveals wear and ageing is becoming a popular look for floors.

HGTV also looked at bamboo, which though it has been around for a while as a flooring material is becoming increasingly popular. Modern bamboo flooring comes as wide planks that look similar to hardwood floor planks.

One surprising trend in floors is concrete. Modern concrete floors are not the grey matt finish that most people imaging concrete to be. Concrete is now available in a variety of colours and textures.

When it comes to Vinyl, the trend is for large format tiles, with some as big as 36” x 36”.
