Vinyl floors make a comeback thanks to new technology

Vinyl flooring is enjoying a surge in popularity thanks to innovations in technology.

Market research organisation Lucintel recently published a report titled ‘Opportunities for Vinyl Flooring in the Global Building Construction Market 2015-2020: Trends, Forecast, and Opportunity Analysis’. The report forecasts that the vinyl flooring market will grow by 3.3% a year in the next four years in the commercial sectors. It predicts that the residential use of vinyl flooring will experience an above average growth in the next few years. This growth is the result of new technology applied to the production of vinyl floor coverings.

There are high-quality digital printed vinyl floor materials, many with 3D embossed effects that simulate natural materials such as wood.

Vinyl floor coverings used to be considered environmentally unfriendly as they often contained harmful chemicals such as phthalate. Many were printed with non-eco oil-based inks. Phthalate-free vinyl printed with water-based inks is now available though, and some manufacturers back their vinyl with recycled materials.

Many businesses installing new contract flooring in their North Wales, Cheshire and Wirral premises are choosing vinyl because it is easy to clean, resistant to water damage, and helps reduce sound.

Many vinyls are also non-slip, which makes the material the ideal floor covering for health centres and nursing homes. There is a high demand for vinyl in office, hotels and educational buildings.

Above all, modern vinyl flooring is appreciated for its looks, easy maintenance and the hardwearing qualities it demonstrates.
