Carpets do not cause asthma or allergies, say scientists

Research by Dr. Vivienne Mahon in Dublin may go some way to dispelling the myth that carpets can cause allergies.

In fact, the studies suggest the opposite is true, and that a well maintained and regularly cleaned carpet can actually improve conditions.

Studies across 18 countries involving over 20,000 people concluded that carpets are not a hazard for asthma and allergy sufferers.

Dust and microscopic particles can contribute to asthma attacks and some people are allergic to these particles. Common particles that can be dangerous to asthma and allergy suffers include pollen and dust mites. A study by the German Allergy and Asthma Society found that carpets trap these particles and reduce the number of potential triggers for asthma attacks and allergic reactions.

There is one danger that can occur; after a while there can be too many particles built up in the carpet and this could pose a threat. Cleaning with a domestic vacuum cleaner may not be enough to clear the trapped particles, but arranging for carpets to be regularly deep cleaned by professional carpet cleaners can help prevent the buildup of particles and return the carpet to the condition where it is a safe trap for these common stimulators of allergic reactions.

Even if a member of your household does not suffer from any allergies or asthma, for hygiene and aesthetics alone, it makes sense to protect your home by using professional carpet cleaning in your Liverpool home or business.
