Building information modelling used to visualise floor designs

A leading vinyl floor manufacture has created visual swatch images of its floor range that can be used in building information modelling (BIM) software. This will allow for 3D visualisation of how a floor will look when covered in various vinyl floor coverings.

When choosing engineered flooring in your Cheshire home, it can be difficult to imagine how the floor will look when installed. Architects designing or renovating houses often use building information modelling software such as ArchiCAD and Revit to construct digital 3D models that enable them and their clients to visualise how the completed building will look.

Polyflor, a major vinyl flooring manufacturer, has recently created swatch image files of its wide range of vinyl tiles, acoustic flooring and commercial vinyl flooring. Using building information modelling software, a user can simply select the appropriate swatch and the floor of the digital model will be covered in the floor design. Architects and interior designers can preview various floor coverings which should make the process of choosing one much easier.

The image files are available on the website Modlar.com, which has a large library of files of building product images for use in BIM software.

Although most BIM systems are used by architects and the construction industry, BIMx is a Free Android and iPad app that clients can install on their tablets to view 3D images of their homes. This could be used as a helpful aid to choosing solid flooring in Cheshire buildings.
